4. Legal Background
According to § 17 paragraph 1 of the German Residence Act, the most important requirements for the granting of a residence permit for the purpose of searching for an apprenticeship are: (a) maximum age of 24 years; (b) secure livelihood; (c) recognized school leaving certificate; (d) good German language skills. The residence permit is issued for six months and can only be reissued if you leave the Federal Republic of Germany for the same period of time that you previously stayed in Germany.
